Using a snowflake cookie cutter, cut out 30 snowflakes out of the pre-made blue velvet cake. Set aside.
Vanilla Cupcakes
Preheat oven to 350 F. Line two muffin pans with paper liners.
In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add in one egg at a time, beating after each addition and then mix in the vanilla. Gradually mix in the flour mixture, alternating with the milk.
Pour the batter into each cupcake liner until the bottoms are covered. Place a snowflake into each cupcake liner and fill with batter until ¾ full.
Bake for 18 minutes, or until done. Allow to cool for 5 minutes and remove from the pan onto a wired rack.
Buttercream Frosting
In a large bowl, cream the butter.
Gradually beat in the powdered sugar alternately with the milk and vanilla extract. Add in blue coloring. Beat until fluffy.
Decoration
Pipe or spread frosting onto each cooled cupcake.
Place snowflake sprinkle and white sprinkles on top of each frosted cupcake.
