FROZEN Hidden Snowflake Cupcakes Recipe

Disney FROZEN fans will love FROZEN Hidden Snowflake Cupcakes. Each vanilla cupcake with blue colored vanilla buttercream frosting has a hidden blue velvet snowflake baked inside.

My daughter loves watching Disney’s FROZEN. It’s our go to movie to watch after playing outside on snow days. Of course, we always enjoy a snack or treat during the movie. I wanted to make a FROZEN inspired dessert for our movie night. So I decided to make FROZEN Hidden Snowflake Cupcakes. Each vanilla cupcake has a hidden blue velvet snowflake baked inside. The cupcakes are covered in blue colored vanilla buttercream frosting. Then decorated with a large snowflake and white ball sprinkles. FROZEN fans will love these Hidden Snowflake Cupcakes.

Ingredients
Snowflake
  • Pre-made blue velvet cake
  • Snowflake cutter
Vanilla Cupcakes
  • 2½ cup flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • 1½ cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
Buttercream Frosting
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 4 Tbs. milk
  • Blue coloring
Decoration
  • Snowflake sprinkles
  • White round sprinkles
Instructions
Snowflake
  1. Using a snowflake cookie cutter, cut out 30 snowflakes out of the pre-made blue velvet cake. Set aside.
Vanilla Cupcakes
  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Line two muffin pans with paper liners.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add in one egg at a time, beating after each addition and then mix in the vanilla. Gradually mix in the flour mixture, alternating with the milk.
  4. Pour the batter into each cupcake liner until the bottoms are covered. Place a snowflake into each cupcake liner and fill with batter until ¾ full.
  5. Bake for 18 minutes, or until done. Allow to cool for 5 minutes and remove from the pan onto a wired rack.
Buttercream Frosting
  1. In a large bowl, cream the butter.
  2. Gradually beat in the powdered sugar alternately with the milk and vanilla extract. Add in blue coloring. Beat until fluffy.
Decoration
  1. Pipe or spread frosting onto each cooled cupcake.
  2. Place snowflake sprinkle and white sprinkles on top of each frosted cupcake.
