Outdoor dining is one of my favorite things to do for date night. Whether we’re watching a sunset while we eat or gazing up at the stars, there’s something about eating outdoors that is incredibly romantic. Keeping the romance in the marriage is what date night is all about, so I can’t think of a better way to do it than a lovely setting and outdoor dining with my husband. It’s a great way to reconnect while keeping things simple.
Outdoor Dining Tips for a Great Date Night
You don’t have to be fancy to have a great date night, you just have to have quality. It’s not about the bells and whistles, it’s about who you’re with.
Keep It Simple
A setting like this is all about the simple pleasure of being together, so don’t overthink it OR overdo it. Keep it simple and fun. There’s nothing wrong with paper plates and plastic cups and silverware. In fact, it’s all recyclable and makes cleanup a breeze.
Keep the Bugs at Bay
If you have a screened-in situation, take advantage of that, and dine safely away from little biters. If you don’t, utilize lawn torches to help provide some soft lighting and also keep mosquitoes and other critters at bay. It’s not the most romantic consideration, but it’s better than battling hordes of flying bloodsuckers.
Keep It Tasty
Both parts of the outdoor dining combo are important. While the atmosphere of dining outdoors is excellent for date night, the food has to be tasty, too! However, tasty doesn’t have to mean fancy. In fact, when my husband and I have date night during the summer, I like to keep it simple.
My husband and I enjoyed a meal of steak burgers, popchips, and sweet tea. If that’s not the most classic summer outdoor meal, I don’t know what it. It was simple and delicious, which is the best combo for just about anything.
Fareway Meat Market
Our steak burgers came in a larger package from Fareway Meat Market. What I liked about this package is that it had enough meats for my husband and me to enjoy some delicious burgers and still have plenty of other cuts for summer grilling family meals down the line. The package included:
- Two 10 ounce Iowa Pork Chops
- Two 8 ounce America’s Cut Boneless Pork Chops
- Two 12 ounce Beef Ribeye Steaks
- Four Premium Steak Burgers
- 1 Pound 85% Lean Butcher’s Blend Ground Beef
Their meats are delicious, and I’ll be ordering from them again. Head to Fareway’s website and save $20 off your first order with code: MEATLOVER
popchips
I paired our steak burgers with barbecue popchips. I just served them on the side – no dip. Remember. Keep it simple. They have excellent flavor varieties:
- Zesty Jalapeno Cheddar
- Buffalo Ranch Ridges
- Barbeque
I’m a big popchip fan, so this worked out perfectly for me and my husband. Head over to popchips on Instagram to see more.
Southern Breeze Cold Brew Sweet Tea Bags
I paired our burgers and popchips with this delicious sweet tea for the perfect summer date night meal. It’s perfect for any occasion because it’s ready in 5 minutes. You just drop the pre-sweetened bag in cold water, and you’re good to go. It’s tasty and has no calories. We had original, but it also comes in:
- Peach
- Raspberry
- Half Tea/Half Lemonade

Outdoor Dining is Best When It’s Simple
Whether you’re having a date night or just grilling with the family, outdoor dining is best when it’s simple. Our evening was one of eating good food and making good memories. We had a little date night, but you can use all of these outdoor dining tips to make any outdoor event a great one. Remember. Keep it simple, keep the bugs away, and keep it tasty. That’s the trifecta of hosting an outdoor get together.
