Prestel’s new All Around Bustletown series by Rotraut Susanne Berner follows the activities of a charming, bustling town over the course of all four seasons! If you look closer, you’ll recognize the same characters appear on every page, each with their own story. In the tradition of Richard Scarry and Where’s Waldo, this series encourages kids to return again and again to each spread, following along with the characters and inventing their own stories. They’ll recognize parts of their own world, while also learning about the endless ways we live, work, and play in each season. Kids will spend hours poring over these oversized pages of vibrantly detailed drawings in this joyfully illustrated series.
In All Around Bustletown: Spring, a house gets a top-to-bottom spring cleaning and farm fields are being prepared for planting. People are shopping, commuting to work, constructing buildings, and meeting friends. If you look closer, you’ll recognize the same characters appear on every page, each with their own story. There’s Wilfred the jogger slipping on a banana peel and his friend Erica who comes to help him. Three cheerful nuns shop, chat, and share a snack at the cafe. A stork surveys all the activity from the sky while a mischievous fox scampers through the streets.
It’s summer in All Around Bustletown: Summer and that means flowers, picnics, thunderstorms, and bike rides. It’s a busy time for construction workers, farmers, and house painters. Playgrounds are filled with kids and vacationers are boarding trains in droves. In the sky a pair of balloons drifts through every scene, while on the street people of all ages make their way to an outdoor birthday party. There’s even a big storm that turns umbrellas inside out, sends hats flying, but ends in a lovely rainbow.
The leaves are blowing off the trees and the birds are flying south in All Around Bustletown: Fall. Farmers are preparing the fields for winter and kids are back in school. And look, there’s a water main break that’s causing havoc and a chimney sweeper perched on a roof! Each time readers look at these delightfully detailed spreads they’ll discover something new, whether it’s what’s for sale at the outdoor market or how many pumpkins they can spot on a single page. Familiar characters appear on each page–a maestro and a violinist, a balloon-toting nun, and a mom with her baby. All the activity culminates in a harvest celebration lit by dozens of paper lanterns in every shape and size.
Winter has arrived in All Around Bustletown: Winter and everywhere you look people are embracing the season. At home there’s baking, reading, and sleeping in, while on the farm the fields are fallow and quiet. Outside people are bundled up against the cold as they are skating, sledding, and running to catch a crowded bus. The town’s buildings are alive with activity–piano lessons, a dentist appointment, shopping for presents, and visiting the museum.
A mother of two only had weeks to live. Veronica Waldrop knew what she had to do – write an enduring message for her daughters, ages two and five, so that they might know truth, hope, and strength well beyond their mom’s fight with breast cancer. In support of International Women’s Day 2020, Tailwind Publishing presents The Nuff, Waldrop’s heartwarming story written to inspire her daughters after she was gone and empower girls everywhere to be the bold and confident individuals they were born to be.
This children’s book about courage and self-discovery follows the adventures of the Nuff, a colorfully-illustrated unicorn with a broken horn that young readers will love. The Nuff reads books and rides bikes, dresses up and dances with a flower crown, and plays basketball and scuba dives. No matter what she does, the story reminds her that “when the world says you can’t and you should just give up….know you are brave and beautiful. You will always be a NUFF!”
“Though we miss her every day, Veronica’s courage and strength is living in us. The Nuff is a part of our healing and the beginning of a mission to inspire our daughters, and girls everywhere, that you are enough,” said Will Waldrop, Veronica’s husband.
During the final weeks of her life, Veronica wore a unicorn costume around the house to raise her daughters’ spirits. The Nuff defines the inextinguishable energy of Veronica’s life and the legacy she wants to pass on to every single Nuff – “a strong and beautiful girl with a powerful heart and brain.”
Encouraging authenticity, resilience, and self-assurance, The Nuff shares a message with girls that they are not defined by their achievements or challenges – they are already, and always, enough.
A portion of the proceeds from each book will go towards the donation of The Nuff copies to early education programs and non-profit organizations already focussed on the advancement of young girls.
You can keep kids learning and engaged with a candy-less Easter basket featuring new books from the beloved Youtube sensation, Blippi!
In early 2014, Stevin John decided that the world needed Blippi after struggling to find educational videos for his three-year-old-nephew. So he took it upon himself to create the lovable and energetic character of “Blippi” to fill this void. Clad in orange and blue that jumps off the screen, Blippi’s engaging personality and friendly demeanor attracted the attention of kids and parents alike. With over 20 MILLION YouTube subscribers and over 11 BILLION views to date, Blippi is helping to make education fun! Like the lyrics to his theme song say: “So much to learn about, it’ll make you want to shout: Blippi!”
This Spring, StudioFun is debuting four new Blippi books for pre-schoolers.:
Blippi: I Like That: Coloring with Crayons – In this coloring and activity book, Blippi tells kids some of the things he likes (like his hat!) and encourages them to color, draw, and doodle things they like, too. Plus, there are lots of connect-the-dots, mazes, matching, and more, all designed to get preschoolers thinking about things they like and to also express their creativity while practicing their developing fine motor skills.
Blippi: Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes – Everyone knows and loves the beloved preschool classic song “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes,” including Blippi! As he energetically acts out the song on the pages of this board book, Blippi prompts readers to press the sound button to play the tune and encourages everyone to get up and move!
Blippi: So Much to See – This 128-page coloring and painting book presents an amazing array of animals, a variety of vrooming vehicles, and some basic early learning concepts, too! There are nearly 100 images for kids to color or paint using the crayons and paints provided…including lots of poses of Blippi.
Blippi: Lets Look and Find! – Blippi prompts preschoolers to find twelve different objects in each illustrated scene in this durable board book. Can they find the blue-and-orange bird in the park? The teddy bear at a birthday party? The seashell at the beach? With gatefolds that open to reveal a new scene on each spread, Blippi: Lets Look and Find will keep preschoolers busy for hours as they happily hone their observation skills.
